IELTS writing task 2 sample answer essay: Environmental problems and solutions

In recent times, environmental problems have emerged as one of the major challenges faced by the global community. The rising pollution levels and climatic variations are leading to severe consequences, impacting the planet’s health and our own lives. The governments have taken some steps at the global level to address these issues, but the results have been far from satisfactory. In this essay, I will explore the reasons for the lack of progress and suggest some measures that can be taken to solve the problem.

There are several reasons why the measures taken by the governments have not been effective. Firstly, the problem of environmental degradation is complex and multifaceted, making it challenging to identify and address all the contributing factors. For instance, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a crucial step in tackling climate change, but it is not sufficient on its own. We also need to address deforestation, habitat destruction, and overfishing, among other issues.

Secondly, many countries are reluctant to take bold steps to address the issue, as it might have a negative impact on their economy. Developing countries, in particular, often prioritize economic growth over environmental protection, which can exacerbate the problem. Furthermore, some developed countries, despite being aware of the impact of their actions on the environment, have failed to take significant steps due to political and economic interests.

To address these challenges, we need to take a multi-faceted approach that involves all stakeholders. Governments need to work together, create new policies and initiatives, and provide incentives for individuals and corporations to adopt sustainable practices. We need to engage with the private sector and encourage them to adopt environmentally-friendly practices, such as reducing waste and emissions, and promoting renewable energy. Furthermore, we need to promote awareness among the general public about the importance of environmental protection and encourage them to make informed choices.

In conclusion, the problem of environmental degradation is a pressing issue, and we need to take urgent action to address it. While the measures taken by the governments have not been sufficient, it is not too late to turn things around. We need to take a collaborative approach, involving all stakeholders, and create new policies and initiatives to ensure a sustainable future for all. Only by working together can we protect our planet and the future generations.
