IELTS writing task 2 sample answer essay: Environment Protection

In recent years, environmental problems have become a major concern for people around the world. Some argue that these problems are too big for individual countries and individuals to address, and that the only way to protect the environment is at an international level. This essay will argue that while international cooperation is important, it is not the only way to address environmental problems.

On the one hand, it is true that environmental problems are often global in scale and cannot be solved by individual countries or persons alone. For example, climate change, ocean pollution, and deforestation are issues that affect the entire planet, and require coordinated efforts from multiple countries to be tackled effectively. In these cases, it is crucial for countries to work together to develop policies and strategies that will address these problems on a global level.

Moreover, international agreements and treaties, such as the Paris Agreement on climate change, are essential for mitigating the impact of environmental problems. These agreements provide a framework for countries to work together towards a common goal, and often include targets and deadlines for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preserving biodiversity, and protecting natural habitats.

On the other hand, it is important to recognize that individual countries and persons also have a significant role to play in addressing environmental problems. For instance, countries can implement their own environmental policies and regulations that reduce pollution, promote renewable energy, and protect natural resources. At the individual level, people can make lifestyle changes that reduce their environmental impact, such as using public transportation, recycling, and reducing energy consumption.

In conclusion, while international cooperation is important for addressing environmental problems, it is not the only way to protect the environment. Countries and individuals also have a significant role to play, and should take action to reduce their own environmental impact. By working together at both the international and individual levels, we can make progress towards a more sustainable future.
