IELTS writing task 2 sample answer essay: Environment and Pollution

In recent years, pollution has become a pressing issue that requires immediate attention. Some individuals suggest that the responsibility of mitigating pollution should be placed on companies and private individuals rather than governments. In this essay, I will argue that while individuals and corporations should do their part in reducing pollution, the primary responsibility lies with the government.

On the one hand, it is true that companies and private individuals have a significant impact on pollution levels. Many businesses release harmful pollutants into the environment, and individuals contribute to pollution by driving cars, using plastic products, and engaging in other harmful activities. Therefore, it is crucial that individuals and corporations recognize their role in polluting the environment and take steps to reduce their environmental footprint. For instance, companies can adopt sustainable business practices, and individuals can reduce their carbon emissions by using public transportation or carpooling.

On the other hand, the primary responsibility for reducing pollution must lie with the government. The government has the power to regulate and enforce environmental laws, ensuring that companies and individuals are held accountable for their pollution. Moreover, the government has the resources and infrastructure necessary to undertake large-scale initiatives to reduce pollution, such as investing in renewable energy sources and encouraging the use of eco-friendly technologies. Governments can also incentivize companies to adopt sustainable practices through tax breaks or other financial incentives.

In conclusion, while individuals and companies must do their part in reducing pollution, the primary responsibility for mitigating pollution must lie with the government. By implementing strong environmental regulations and investing in sustainable technologies, the government can ensure that future generations inherit a clean and healthy planet. Therefore, I disagree with the notion that individuals and corporations should bear the entire burden of reducing pollution.
