I hope you have read out all the table of contents one by one. These are only heading. But do not worry, I am going to explain all of this one by one. So, let’s start the journey to know the Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes.

#1: Trying to provide Every information: Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes

IELTS writing task 1 is not about providing every information to the examiner. Your examiner wants to see how you prioritize writing task 1. As you see that, every academic writing task 1 states that “summarise the information and report the main features”. This is clear by this line. You should only write the primary points as per your selection and make a proper report.

90% of the IELTS students try to give tip to tip information about the whole data. But this makes their task like a bag of bloody dust. This can create so many problems such as timing, writing, and spellings, etc.

Keep remembering that, IELTS writing task 1 is a short report or summary. You need to create an extraordinary informational report. Just pick the main information and skip all the extra stuff. For example, if the question or the graph has 5 types of enlightenment. You have to provide only 3 main points by using relevant words.

#2: Not writing an understandable overview

The overview is the backbone or you can say the brain of your writing task 1. without writing this, you can not imagine a single band in IELTS writing. In other words, we say body paragraphs (BP1 and BP2).

Your work is to show your skills in these paragraphs such as your vocabulary skills, use linking words and words which show trends, etc. But some of the students are eagerly waiting for this and made a blundering mistake in the enthusiasm of high band score.

if you do not provide a clear overview then 7 bands are not in your hands.

#3: make the questions complicated: Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes

This problem comes when you do not read the question properly and watch out for the graph with real eyes. The graph and the chart are so much simpler than you think.

keep in mind that you only have 18 minutes to write the writing task 1. Officially 20 but 18 minutes are recommended by the professional tutors. 2 minutes are for proofreading. Let’s suppose, the provided data is about the last 5 years of population growth.

as you can see that the question is so simple and you have to write a summary of this. Some of the students make it complicated by thinking multiple questions in mind such as what type of vocabulary should I use, what connectors should I use, etc… But this is not like that. Just read and write with the flow.

#4: Illogical Organizing of Ideas: Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes

If I directly talk about the logical organization of writing task 1. then this is the best structure:-

  • Introduction
  • Overview (primary features)
  • Details
  • conclusion

just keep in your mind that makes it simple to understand the info. to know more about IELTS task 1. Click on the Guide about IELTS writing task 1.

#5: clarify the data in a wrong way

the mechanism to represent the data is different. according to the IELTS guidelines, it is not required to write correct data. Sometimes the question has not provided the right piece of information. But do not panic and do not use the wrong words.

You can use some words such as around and approximately. if the graph and chart are not mentioning the specific data then you can write about information. For example, the murder cases in 1976 are more than 5000. If you are not sure about the exact number then it is fine.

#6: unmanageable timing problem: Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes

Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes:- this is the most common mistake or you can say this occurs due to lack of practice. All of the students have not enough guts to complete the writing task on time. All of the students targeted 20 minutes to write the IELTS task 1. But this is very wrong. If your mentor is professional then he never suggests you finish the IELTS writing task in 20 Minutes. I always say that 17-18 minutes should be the fixed target of every IELTS student. In the last 2 to 3 minutes, you can do proofreading or check the spelling mistake or anything.

when you sit to give the exam, there is a digital watch which is there only for you. This is your duty to store every second for future correction.

The perfect way to start writing task 1 is to prepare a small note:-

  • read and watch the information & graph in a single sight.
  • write down the main features for the overview.
  • write necessary vocab words and linking words to use in the introduction and other paragraphs.

#7: not writing as the first person

99% of the students made this mistake. The IELTS examiner does not want your opinion. write the whole writing task 1 like a first-person or you are telling a story in which you are not included.

do not use words like I think that, I believe that or anything. it is all about representing the data in an understandable manner. That’s all. Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes.

use these words (the data is showing that, according to the provided information, as per the enlightenment) Do not make this mistake ever in the future.

#8: vocabulary repetition: Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes

Most of the students do not focus on learning vocabulary. Do you know the right way to use the vocab in IELTS writing task 1. Don’t think that the learning of thousands of complex words is enough to achieve 7 or 8 bands. No-Never.

if you use the same vocabulary after each line then it shows that you are not eligible enough to make complex sentences and you have a very small collection of words. (Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes) The ultimate method to crack this out is to learn synonyms of each word.

If you want to achieve 8 or more bands in IELTS, write the learn 2 or 3 synonyms with every word you learn. it will be easy to use a variety of words to enhance the line in a good way.

#9: use irrelevant vocabulary

In the Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes article, this is the most important point. This is the same as the previous point. It is also about vocabulary. as you know the importance of vocabulary in writing task 1. This can be the most powerful weapon if you use it in the right way.

I know that you have learned thousands of vocabs but do you know where to use them and which is the right place to use those words? the word which you are using in the line should be compatible and relevant to the information. let me explain to you with an example, the nature of that girl is so attractive. Is it true? Nope. You should use impressive. because looks are attractive and nature is impressive. Both of these words are so confusing but use them in the right place. If you learn this skill then it can increase your band score to 8.

Conclusion: Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes

Common IELTS Writing Task 1 Mistakes:– after summing up all the information, I just want to say that mistakes should be the primary motive of every student. Because by removing the mistakes you can help you to get a high band score in IELTS.
